Graphic Facilitation for Development Education

Start Date: 26/06/2018 End Date: 27/06/2018

Event Location: 15 Little Green Street (off Capel Street), Dublin 7

IDEA is running a two-day training workshop on Graphic Facilitation for Development Education, 27 & 28 June, in The Complex,15 Little Green Street (off Capel Street), Dublin 7. The training days will run from 10am – 5pm each day.

The aim of this training workshop is to empower participants to use visual tools in their facilitation practice. The level of complexity is high when discussing Development Education and global justice issues. Visual tools are helpful because they can illustrate complexity so that everyone can understand – we can literally put ourselves into the bigger picture, in a way that is impossible with words alone. Visual thinking also encourages our brain to work in a different, less linear, way.

The training will be facilitated by Eimear McNally. Eimear is a freelance illustrator and facilitator working mainly in the area of live graphic recording and visual facilitation. She works on paper and digitally. She is trained and experienced in facilitation with an “Art of Hosting” approach. This approach focuses on collaborative, conversational methods for meetings and learning processes. As a freelance consultant, she has worked with clients such as Google, Siemens, UCD, the HSE, Society of SVP and many others.  Eimear is hugely experienced in the area of facilitation and visual illustration. However she assures us that you don't need to be able to draw to do this training! The approach will be about creating and implementing basic visual tools into your faciltiation work.

Day 1 will be an introduction to graphic recording and visual practice. This day will equip learners with the basic tools to begin using visuals in their practice and will include practical sessions drawing and making visual supports.

Day 2 will focus on the use of visuals in facilitation. This will include exploring systems visually and engaging with statistics creatively. The training will suit anyone who has a facilitation practice, has an interest in visuals and would like support in bringing the two together. Participants will leave with a set of tools they can use, as well as a starter kit for their work (markers, tape, papers etc.) and ideas for exploration in their own practice.

Cost: €90 for members of IDEA and €150 for non-members. The fee includes participation in both days of the course, refreshments as well as a ‘Graphic Facilitation starter kit’ to take away for each participant. Please contact us if you have any questions.
